Because Of This Feature, Tesla Is Expected To Make A Withdrawal
JAKARTA - Tesla has offered various technologies embedded in its car, one of which is the application of changing teeth from going back and forth without stepping on the pedal. However, this method is now a petition.
The United States Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating a petition forcing Tesla to make a recall of any vehicles being sold after 2013.
In a technical document sent from Costas Lacaphosis, a mechanical and aeronautics engineer and accident investigator from Greece said he accused Tesla of introducing a "special feature" that prompted an accidental acceleration event that resulted in accidents and injuries.
"One of the'special features' is the ability of the car to stop and move back and forth when the driver is ready to park, without requiring actual brake pedal activation. There are no practical benefits that are potentially dangerous," Lacaphosis wrote, quoted from Carscoops, Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
In the petition, Lacaphosis pointed out that since the 1980s it has been known that the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) feature reduces unwanted sudden acceleration events in automatic transmission vehicles. This feature has also been mandatory on vehicles since 2010.
The Greek engineer also said that removing both legs from the pedal was a major factor that contributed to the increased risk of error in the application of the pedal, and showed a number of accidents that were handed over to the NHTSA.
Lacaphosis also suggested that the feature not be allowed and asked drivers to step on the brake pedal before switching to the driving feature back on Tesla cars. He also suggested the easiest way to update the software on the car.
With the submission of the petition, NHTSA will evaluate Lacaphosis' accusations by considering its own field data to determine whether the petition is accepted or rejected.
If the petition is accepted, the NHTSA will conduct an investigation and force Tesla to make a recall. They also previously investigated the same incident in 2020.
