Super Mario Bros. Movie Successfully Raises IDR 5.6 Trillion Box Office

JAKARTA - The Super Mario Bros Movie has successfully earned a place in the box office. Competition with several other films does not make this animated film receive low income.

Launching People, this film won the biggest opening figures for animated films with 377 million dollars or equivalent to IDR 5.6 trillion. This figure is obtained from ticket sales for worldwide screening.

On five days of broadcast, Super Mario Bros Movie earned 204.6 million US dollars globally, the film pocketed 173 million dollars from 70 countries showing films.

In addition, this film is also the title with the biggest opening figures in 2023 beating Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. On the other hand, it is certain that this success will also exceed the adaptation of The Super Mario Bros. in 1993 which was considered an adaptation failure.

The Super Mario Bros. tells the story of Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day), two brothers who work as roadmen and live in Brooklyn. Every day they receive jobs repairing pipes from neighbors' homes.

One time, Mario heard news of an underground water pipe leak that caused Brooklyn to flood. Together with Luigi, they wanted to repair the pipe, but they were accidentally sucked into a mysterious pipe and caused them to separate.

The Super Mario Bros. is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic who adapts Nintendo's video game material under Illumination production. In addition, the film is planned to be released in its home country at the end of April.
