Allegedly Having Economic Problems, 51-year-old Man Hangs Himself After Killing His Wife

The husband and wife couple, Muhammad Suwandi (51) and Indah Surowati (48) were found dead, Friday, April 7, 2023, at around 17.00 WIB at their home in Traju Hamlet, RT 3 RW 1, Manggungsari Village, Weleri District.

The incident was allegedly due to the economic motive of the receivable debt. The husband allegedly killed his wife and then committed suicide by hanging himself in the back of the kitchen.

Kendal Police Chief AKBP Jamal Alam H at the crime scene (TKP) confirmed the incident. He explained that the murder of his wife was allegedly carried out by her husband. Then the husband commits suicide by hanging himself in the back of the kitchen.

"The incident today, Friday, April 7, 2022, at around 17.00 WIB. The body of his wife Indah Surowati was found in the room. And her husband Muhammad Suwandi was hanging himself in the back of the kitchen," explained AKBP Jamal Alam, in a written statement, Sunday, April 9.

It was revealed that the motive for the incident was allegedly due to economic problems, namely debt receivables. However, to ensure that the main motive is still further investigation.

"The motive is still under investigation. However, based on information from relatives and parents, there is a debt motive. Later we will develop it again by examining witnesses to determine the main motive," he said.

AKBP Jamal Alam added that the victim's wife's body had scars on the ceiling. And found a crowbar measuring approximately one meter at the scene.

"That's for the victim whose wife is Indah. Each of her husbands is found to be still hanging by a rope. It is possible to hang himself," added the Kendal Police Chief.

Meanwhile, the two victims of husband and wife have been taken to the Weleri Hospital.

One of the village officials who is also still the victim's family, Suwanto said, only found out the news from his younger brother. He admitted that he had never heard of the husband and wife arguing or fighting.

"I know that my sister called me. How come there are crowds. Then I immediately came here, there were already many people. So far I have never heard of them arguing. Yes, it seems like it's just going well," he concluded.
