Due To Airbag Failure, VW Withdraws 143 Thousand Atlas SUV Units
JAKARTA - A German car company, Volkswagen will recall 143,053 units of its car due to airbag problems at the front. The problem was encountered in Atlas produced 2018-2021 and Atlas Cross Sport 2020.
The problem with this airbag is due to an error in the front seat passenger detection cable system. The manufacturer appealed to car owners not to drive with anyone on the passenger seat until the repairs were completed.
VW has yet to find a solution to the problem. However, the company is trying to find a way to fix it. The company will notify the affected car owners when the repairs are ready.
The VW investigated the matter since August 2019 when it received a related report, reported by Motor1, Tuesday, April 4. Then they analyzed the matter until May 2020. Then, in February 2021, Volkswagen Product Safety Committee found that the failure of the passenger detection system was "very vulnerable".
Then, they released a technical bulletin on this issue in June 2021. Until finally March 22, VW decided to withdraw the affected unit.
VW Atlas is a medium-sized SUV introduced in 2017. The model is produced for markets in the United States (US), Canada, and China. The model has other names, namely Volkswagen Teramont for markets outside the US and Canada.
This car is produced in several variations, namely a 4-cylinder engine variant with a 2.0 liter engine, and a 2.5 liter and a 3.6 liter 6-cylinder.
The German manufacturer also introduced the latest model from Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport for the 2024 model. The exterior is updated with a larger headlights and a lamp that extends to the muzzle.
