Hutama Karya: All Trans Sumatra Toll Roads Are Designed To Be Earthquake Resistant
JAKARTA - PT Hutama Karya (Persero) revealed that almost all sections on the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) were designed and built with earthquake-resistant innovation.
"Before building JTTS, Hutama Karya first carried out planning by taking into account various aspects so that the toll roads built have a solid toll road quality, especially since Indonesia is located among three large, active world plates where the island of Sumatra is included in areas that have the potential to be hit by an earthquake," said Director of Operations III Hutama Karya Koentjoro in his statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, March 28.
According to him, one of the technologies carried for the earthquake defense is Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) or lead core rubber pads which are widely applied in the bridge structure.
LRB technology has a high depletion ability by utilizing abundant natural rubber in Indonesia.
"Before the LRB was implemented on toll roads, a standard verification test of earthquake dynamic conditions had been carried out to prove its characteristic performance using the largest test engine in Southeast Asia," he said.
Koentjoro further explained that LRB has a fairly crucial function in maintaining structural security when an earthquake occurs.
Thus, the resilience of the toll road structure is more secure when facing the risk of an earthquake where LRB has been implemented in several JTTS sections such as the Binjai - Brandan & Bangkinang - Koto Kampar toll road.
"The application of LRB technology provides the best quality on toll roads that are managed so as to increase the lifespan of the quality of toll roads and create safe and comfortable toll roads for users passing through JTTS, especially now that JTTS is getting longer and people's interest in passing is increasing," said Koentjoro.
