JAKARTA - The 2020 Grammy Awards ceremony was just held at the Staples Center on January 27 or January 26 US time. A number of musicians compete to take home the Grammy award at the age of 62.
As predicted, the names of singers like Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X will successfully win the 2020 Grammy Awards. Especially Billie Eilish who won five of the six award nominations.
The night of the 2020 Grammy Awards opened with Lizzo's performance singing Cuz I Love You and Truth Hurts. Lizzo once voiced "Tonight for Kobe (Bryant)" and started his performance with the choir and bringing in ballet dancers. Not to forget, he also plays his flagship flute.
Being a musician with the most nominations, Lizzo managed to win three of the eight nominations including the album Cuz I Love You which won Best Urban Contemporary Album.
In the midst of the sparkle and excitement of the Grammy Awards award night, sad news came from NBA basketball player Kobe Bryant who had a helicopter crash with his daughter. Bryant's death made Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men open the event with emotion, they sang It's So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday.
"We never imagined we would start an event like this. We love you Kobe, "said Alicia Keys as the host.
Rapper Lil Nas X, one of the phenomenal names this year, performed the song Old Town Road. He started his performance in the background of a room and basketball costume number 24 owned by Kobe Bryant.
Slowly, he sang the song with BTS, Diplo, Young Thug, Nas, and Billy Ray Cyrus and ended with a performance of the song Rodeo. The success of the song Old Town Road also successfully gave him two awards out of the six nominations he won.
Demi Lovato gave an emotional performance, which finally appeared to the public after an overdose she experienced in 2018. Singing her newest song, Anyone, Lovato seemed nervous, so she repeated the intro that was already running. This song was written while he was being treated and recorded in good health. Anyone shared Lovato's restlessness when he asked anyone who heard him for help.
The moment of emotion was closed with a tribute performance to Nipsey Hussle, which was presented by his friends to be one of the best. Among them are John Legend, DJ Khaled, Meek Mill, Roddy Ricch, and YG.
Starting with Meek Mill singing Letter to Nipsey, then John Legend and DJ Khaled brought in the choir for Higher's song and let Hussle's rap part sound. Although this tribute performance was originally for Hussle, they also posted a photo of Kobe Bryant as part of the tribute. Nipsey Hussle was shot dead in March 2019 and died on the spot. His Higher and Racks In The Middle songs won in the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap / Sung Performance categories.
Billie Eilish as one of the names mentioned managed to bring in five of the six nominations. His biological brother, FINNEAS also won Producer of the Year. “This is for the kid making music in his bedroom today. You will get this, ”said Eilish when accepting Bad Guy as Song of the Year. He also received awards for Best New Artist, Album of The Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Not to forget, Eilish had said that Ariana Grande deserved the Album of the Year award more than she did. Even though Bad Guy was the main star of the nomination, at the Grammy Awards, Eilish sang When The Party's Over with FINNEAS which was also a track from the album When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
This year, Ariana Grande did not get a Grammy from the five nominations she got. However, he still performed well by bringing a medley of his hit songs, namely Imagine, 7 Rings, and Thank U Next. Grande also performed several verses of Julie Andrews' My Favorite Things, which was a sampling of 7 Rings.
