JAKARTA - Meta has just launched a new subscription service, where Facebook and Instagram users can pay for account verification or a blue tick similar to Elon Musk's Twitter.

Dubbed Meta Verified, the service will give users a blue tick after the company verifies the user's account using an identification mark.

Another requirement is that users must also be 18 years of age and over, meet the requirements of Meta's minimum activity, and enable two-factor authentication.

Once verified, they cannot change the username, profile name, date of birth, or photo unless they verify again.

In addition to blue ticks, users will also get proactive imitation protection, and direct access to customer support.

However, Meta Verified is only available in the United States (US), and its initial testing in Australia and New Zealand is showing good results. Initial feedback from users was also received by the company.

For context, Meta Verified in Australia and New Zealand includes increased visibility, reach in search, comments, and recommendations.

But the offering confused users, so the company plans to explore further before considering expanding it beyond Australia and New Zealand.

Launching The Verge, Saturday, March 18, unlike on Twitter, if the user had a verification badge on Instagram or Facebook before the newly launched Meta Verified system, nothing would change.
