Ripple Contributed Rp15 Billion In Crypto XRP For Turkish And Syrian Earthquake Victims

JAKARTA Ripple, a global crypto company, has donated US$1 million (equivalent to Rp15 billion) through XRP donations to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. While waiting for the judge's decision in his legal case with the SEC, Ripple tried to help those affected by the earthquake. The earthquake on February 6 resulted in severe damage to property and livelihoods and killed more than 36,000 people.

In an effort to help recover, Ripple will donate USD 250,000 (approximately IDR 3.8 billion) in XRP form and will match every crypto donation of USD 2:1 to USD 750,000 (approximately IDR 11.3 billion). The donation will be made through four non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide direct assistance to the affected communities. Through this effort, Ripple aims to make a meaningful contribution to earthquake victims and show solidarity from the crypto industry.

"We are committed to USD 1 million in XRP to support NGOs providing earthquake assistance in Turkey and Syria - through aid funds at @crypto4charity_ and donating USD 250 thousand in XRP and will also match all of the 2:1 crypto donations here, up to USD 750 thousand," wrote Ripple announcement (@Ripple), February 14, 2023.

Other crypto companies are also joining this aid effort, showing that the crypto community is working to help beyond the scope of technology and investment. In a statement, Ripple said it was committed to making a meaningful contribution and supporting NGOs in providing assistance to those affected by the earthquake.

This is also a form of Ripple's efforts to make a positive social impact worldwide. With the assistance provided, Ripple and other crypto communities hope to help accelerate the recovery process of earthquake victims. $1 million worth of Ripple donations (Rp15 billion) will be evenly distributed between four non-governmental organizations (NGOs), namely CARE, World Central Kitchen, Mercy Corps, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC).

The four NGOs work to provide immediate assistance in the form of cash, basic necessities such as household and hygiene equipment, as well as items that support the dignity of women and girls to help communities affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. In addition, other NGOs have also received donations from the crypto community.

The crypto community contributed to the earthquake relief efforts in Turkey. On February 13, Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum, donated 50 ETHs to Anka Relief, a crypto and community aid fund aimed at helping earthquake victims in Turkey. He also donated 100 ETHs to Ahbap, a aid organization that collects crypto contributions.

The Ahbap website reports that more than US$4.4 million (equivalent to Rp66.8 billion) has been donated through digital assets. In addition, crypto communities and exchanges such as Tezos, Bitget, Gate.io, Kucoin, BtcTurk, Huobi, OKX, Binance, Bybit, BitMEX, and Bitfinex also assist in providing earthquake assistance.
