JAKARTA The Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri pair want to appear unloaded in the 2024 Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) even though they have a tough task of chasing tickets to the Paris Olympics.

The BAC will take place at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Ningbo, China, 9-14 April 2024. Bagas/Fikri need to get the best results from this event so that their chance to qualify for Paris is known.

"Me and Fikri will play loose and enjoy every game," said Bagas in a statement received.

Currently Bagas/Fikri are ranked ninth in qualifying for the Olympics. For doubles, they must enter the top eight in order to qualify for Paris later.

To move up to that position, Bagas/Fikri need to come out to become champions in the BAC. This is the only remaining tournament that is included in the qualifying count for the quadrennial event.

The badminton player who gets the title from this event will bring home 12 thousand points. Thus, Bagas/Fikri need to pursue that point so that it can be safe.

Bagas said the target was quite a heavy burden. For that, he did not want the target to interfere with their game later.

"I don't want to be burdened with having to win in order to qualify for the Paris Olympics. I will try to play well first," said Bagas.

Bagas/Fikri are one of three Indonesian men's doubles that will appear in this event. Present with them were Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin.
