JAKARTA - After several days of debuting on the Geneva Motor Show, French brand Renault claims to have had 50,000 orders on the waiting list for 5 E-Techs, an outstanding figure for a new model.

No wonder the price is cheaper than its competitors, as well as a variety of interesting features that are pinned to make this electric car sell well.

"We have a waiting list of 50,000 people," Renault CEO Fabrice Cambolive told Automotive News Europe, quoted from the Electrek website, Tuesday, March 5.

As is known, this new compact electric vehicle is sold starting at 25,000 euros or around Rp427 million. Built in Northern France, this retro-style inspired vehicle is Renault's first small electric vehicle.

"We will open an order in May, and we will start sending cars in September or October," he added.

Regarding specifications, 5 E-Techs will be available in three different electric motor configurations, offering 70 kW, 90 kW, or 110 kW of power, and a maximum battery size of 52 kWh will result in WLTP coverage of up to 400 km (249 miles).

Even interestingly, this one car is claimed to be able to pull the trailer with a capacity of up to 500kg. Renault 5 will also be available with smaller batteries, 40 kWH, and a range of 300 km, but Cambolive said the version would launch months after the larger battery.

Coming with two color choices including Pop Yellow and Pop Green, as well as a more classic option, the car is designed to rival Fiat 500e and Mini Electric, targeting trendy and high-end small EV drivers.
