BOGOR - Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan opened his voice about public complaints on social media regarding the rules of congenital import goods. According to him, the public is too excessive in responding to new policies for luggage imports.

The regulation of congenital imported goods is regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 36 of 2023, concerning the Policy and Regulation of imports.

"The Ministry of Trade is about complicated luggage, isn't it? If we are with our own nation, it will continue to be sluggish," he said when met in the Karang Asem Barat area, Citeureup, Bogor, Thursday, March 28.

The man who is familiarly called Zulhas also compared the applicable regulations at airports of several countries. For example, Saudi Arabia applies stricter inspection rules.

"Just take it off, just take the pants off, let alone put them in a bag. It's only natural that Customs and Excise is checking, that's natural, if the suspect is being investigated, he opens someone's suitcase. It's something normal. Why should it be noisy?," he said.

"Try to go, let alone go to Saudi Arabia, go in and be searched. It's a procedure in Customs and Excise that's normal," he continued.

According to Zulhas, when compared to other countries, the rules in Indonesia are the simplest. Therefore, he also asked the public to obey the rules that apply in the country.

"So I remind you that our Customs and Excise procedures are among the loosest. Let's try to go to Saudi Arabia, the United States, Japan, South Korea, China, and search. So obey the existing rules," he concluded.

Therefore, Zulhas also emphasized that his party would not relax this rule even though there were many complaints submitted by the public.

According to Zulhas, the rules contained in the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023 make it easier for the public not to be taxed, but on the condition that luggage is in accordance with the provisions.

"In the past, whatever is purchased, pay the tax. Now you are given a bonus, two pairs don't have to pay taxes. If you buy a lot, pay taxes, as a citizen (which is good). Especially if you trade again, you don't pay taxes," said Zulhas.

For your information, in the regulation of Permendag Number 36 of 2023, several examples of commodities that are limited to import activities are footwear which is only 2 pairs per passenger, then bags are only for 2 pcs per passenger, then textile goods and so are 5 pcs per passenger.

Then, 5 units of electronic goods and a maximum value of FOB 1,500 per passenger, and the last is goods in the form of cell phones, handhelds, and tablets as many as 2 pcs per passenger within 1 year.
