JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker), Ida Fauziyah stated that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Kuwait are an important momentum in discussing global issues in regional and multilateral forums, including in the field of employment.

Minister of Manpower Ida explained several issues that could be raised with Indonesia and Kuwait, including Palestinian independence, peace and security, as well as socio-economic development.

"To address global issues, two bilateral mechanisms have been established in both countries, namely the Joint Commission of the Ministers and the Joint Trade Commission at the senior official level," said Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah quoting Antara.

Meanwhile, in the employment sector, Indonesia and Kuwait have realized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) signed in 1996.

Currently, said Ida, Kuwait has also become a home for more than 6,100 Indonesian citizens (WNI), of which there are around 2,850 Indonesian migrant workers who work in the oil, health and hospitality sectors.

"I hope that in the future more professional and skilled Indonesian migrant workers will work in Kuwait," said Ida.

Minister of Manpower Ida added that the development of cooperation between Indonesia and Kuwait, especially in the employment sector, must continue to be carried out properly. Thus, the placement of Indonesian workers to Kuwait can run smoothly.
