Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani stated that the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a forum for multilateral cooperation aimed at developing and building economic policy standards.

The Minister of Finance revealed that the OECD consists of 38 countries that are relatively advanced/rich with the goal of promoting sustainable growth.

"OECD is an opportunity to exchange experiences in overcoming economic development problems," he said in a written statement quoted on Friday, August 11.

According to the Minister of Finance, Indonesia is currently the Key Partner Country of OECD which has worked together to support several important reforms.

"(Some have been done) such as global tax policies, the development of the financial sector and the problem of financing climate change," he said.

Furthermore, the state treasurer gave clarity about the plan to increase Indonesia's contribution to the organization in the future.

"Indonesia is also invited to become an OECD member who aims to strengthen the foundations and quality of economic policy," he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance's statement was conveyed after accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to receive an official visit from the Secretary General (Sekjen) of OECD Mathias Cormann at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Previously, the Minister of Finance was also known to have received Mathias at his office before shifting to the Palace.

"This (to become an OECD member) is in line with President Jokowi's support to accelerate our economy into an advanced economy," said Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
