JAKARTA - The Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Center (BBKP) of the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) released 32 tons of clove exports produced by South Sulawesi farmers to the Middle East market.

Head of the Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Center Lutfie Natsir in Makassar said the exported cloves had met the requirements to be trafficd according to the request of the destination country.

"Those exported to the central east are 32 tons and this meets the requirements for traffic so that exports can be carried out," he said, quoting Antara, Sunday, February 12.

Lutfie Natsir said the Middle East market export destination country, namely Qatar, was 12 tons with a value of Rp.896 million and Libya as much as 10 tons worth Rp. 1,006 billion.

He explained that before leaving for Qatar, the cloves that were trafficd through the Makassar Sea Port had gone through the health check stage which stated that they were free from the Quarantine Plant Perturbation Organism (OPTK) by officials of the Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Center.

"We hope that this export of cloves can stimulate other exporters to be able to bring agricultural commodities in South Sulawesi to penetrate the Middle East market so that the export of agricultural commodities to the Middle East can be sustainable," he said.

Lutfie also hopes that the export of cloves will become a stimulant for other agricultural commodities in Sulawesi at large so that it can penetrate the Middle East market.

The Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Center itself is currently continuing to strive to continue to increase exports of agricultural commodities in South Sulawesi to foreign countries.

"We continue to provide assistance to service users, one of which is by opening consultations at our Export Clinic," he explained.

Lutfie said that the Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Center, Ministry of Agriculture has opened an export clinic located at the Makassar Agricultural Quarantine Office, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan KM 12.

"At this Export Clinic, service users can not only conduct consultations regarding the flow of quarantine reporting, but also regarding the export requirements of agricultural commodities," he said.
