JAKARTA - The Chinese military has stated that it will carry out marine and air patrols in the South China Sea, where the United States and the Philippines, Japan, and Australia are holding joint naval exercises.

The Southern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army said that air and naval units under its command would carry out a joint combat patrol, reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, April 8.

The statement underscores the military activity aimed at sabotaging the situation in the region and creating a crisis point, has been under control, without naming the US or other countries.

In a statement released on Saturday, April 6, the four-state defense minister announced that they would conduct joint exercises in the South China Sea to "visit the right to freedom of navigation and aviation and respect maritime rights under international law."

The statement said exercises would be carried out in an area known as the West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Government's official determination of the South China Sea section which is included in the country's exclusive economic zone.

The West Philippine Sea has become a sovereignty dispute between China and the Philippines.

Tensions have risen in the region recently, leading to clashes between coast guard ships of the two countries.
