The General Election Commission (KPU) has asked President Joko Widodo for help to hold a re-voting (PSU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, due to special policies related to the political activities of other countries in the neighboring country.

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari explained that the policy concerns the permit application which must be submitted from three to six months before a political event, such as collection from other countries held in Malaysia.

"There has been information recently that the Malaysian government has made a guidelines or protocol or some kind of SOP that to be held political activities by other countries in Malaysia must apply for a permit and according to the procedure," said Hasyim, quoted by Antara, Monday, March 4.

According to him, if the activity is held in the premise of other countries or the territory of Indonesian authorities, such as the Indonesian Embassy, the Indonesian Consulate General, Wisma Indonesia or the Indonesian School, the permit is three months before the activity.

Meanwhile, permits for political activities outside the premise of other countries must be submitted to Malaysian authorities for six months. "Even though previous election activities were not like that," he said.

With this new policy, the KPU also asked President Joko Widodo for help so that the re-voting in Kuala Lumpur could still be held.

"Therefore, because the time is tight, we have reported it to the President. We ask for facilitation assistance so that there are talks, say at a high level between the President and the Prime Minister of Malaysia to ask for facilitation assistance so that a re-voting can be held in Kuala Lumpur," explained Hasyim.

He is also optimistic that President Jokowi's efforts will be successful in order to carry out a re-voting in Kuala Lumpur.

The PSU in Kuala Lumpur will use two methods and last for two days. The two methods are voting at polling stations (TPS) and mobile ballot boxes (KSK).

The PSU for the KSK method was carried out on March 9, 2024 and the TPS method was implemented the following day, March 10, 2024.

For the KSK method, the polling group (KPPS) will carry out escort from start to finish. The next day, the ballot will be calculated along with the results of the PSU from the TPS method.

In addition, the KPU has determined the list of permanent overseas voters (DPTLN) for re-voting in Kuala Lumpur to reach 62,217 people.

Hasyim said the number was obtained by the KPU from the total voters who attended Kuala Lumpur through three previous voting methods, both those recorded on the permanent voter list (DPT), additional voter lists (DPTb), and special voter lists (DPK).

The total voters for the three methods recorded in the DPT, DPTb, and DPK reached 78 thousand. The 78 thousand numbers are databases for updating with three categories, namely validity of addresses, multi-plane analysis, and validity of population identification numbers (NIK) and passport numbers.

"After we do the analysis, of the 78 thousand then we can conclude and we have determined the DPTLN for the Kuala Lumpur PSU, the number is 62,217 voters," he concluded.
