JAKARTA - The Indonesian Prosecutor's Office's Asset Recovery Center (PPA) officially rose to become the Asset Recovery Agency with the inauguration of Amir Yanto as the first agency by Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin at the Attorney General's Main Building, Jakarta.

In his mandate, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin conveyed the inauguration and oath-taking procession of the Head of the Asset Recovery Agency as a pillar of history to place the Prosecutor's Office as a central point in an effort to realize law enforcement that is oriented towards financial recovery and the country's economy.

Burhanuddin is optimistic that the newly inaugurated Head of the Asset Recovery Agency will be able to realize the big ideals of the Prosecutor's Office through the support, strengthening, and acceleration that will be applied to the working unit of the Asset Recovery Agency in order to create a maximum output work in realizing the Asset Recovery Agency as a central authority (CA) in terms of asset recovery.

However, Burhanuddin reminded that the task of becoming a pioneer as the first Head of Asset Recovery is not easy, like a large ship that has just been poured into the open sea.

"Being the first captain in the Asset Recovery Agency is not an easy and comfortable position as perceived. There are big responsibilities that must be carried out and there are many problems regarding asset management and recovery that must be resolved," said Burhanuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, February 19.

The Attorney General explained that the Asset Recovery Agency is a supporting function for the success of law enforcement of the Prosecutor's Office, both carried out by the General Crimes Division and the Special Crimes Sector.

This, he said, was in accordance with the mandate of Article 30A of Law Number 11 of 2021 concerning the Prosecutor's Office.

The Asset Recovery Agency's work unit is not only at the central level (the Attorney General's Office) but also up to the state prosecutor's level. For this reason, Burhanuddin reminded the Head of the Asset Recovery Agency to immediately prepare a blueprint (blueprint) and roadmap which is the basis for work units to carry out complete tasks, obey procedures accompanied by caution and accuracy.

Burhanuddin also reminded the Head of the Asset Recovery Agency to immediately adapt to new tasks, new organizational structures and vision and mission of the Asset Recovery Agency. This is important because new tasks are very complex, ranging from asset tracing, asset management, to asset settlement.

"I hope the Asset Recovery Agency can be trusted as the only executor of asset recovery authority in a database for national asset recovery and as implementer of integrated hope in asset recovery," said Burhanuddin.

The establishment of the Asset Recovery Agency is a development of the Prosecutor's organ, previously known as the Asset Recovery Center (PPA).

The PPA was formed based on the Attorney General's Regulation (Perjak) Number 006/JA/3/2014, under the Deputy Attorney General for Development (Jambin).

In the formation of the Asset Recovery Agency, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin held several meetings with the Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform (Menpan RB) Abdullah Azwar Annas in not October and November 2023.

At a meeting on Friday (12/11/2023), Menpan RB Abdullah Azwar Annas said the urgency of the formation of the Ri Prosecutor's Asset Recovery Agency was related to the large amount of evidence as a result of the crime handled by the Adhyaksa Corps.

"Because a lot of assets have become evidence that is difficult to handle. Because there are so many, and are in many places, with this it will certainly save as evidence of assets that have been confiscated by the Prosecutor's Office," said Anas.
