National Team Amin Proposes Cooperation Of SOEs, Erick Thohir: 1.6 Million People Can Disrupt

The Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar national team proposed that SOEs become cooperatives (doc. AMIN national team).

JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir responded to the proposal of the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar National Winning Team (Timnas AMIN) regarding SOEs to be used as cooperative business entities.

According to him, the discourse was considered to have caused 1.6 million SOE employees to lose their jobs.

"Yes, it means that there are 1.6 million workers in BUMN who will be unemployed. So, the release of 1.6 million when we need jobs that are really needed actually adds to this unemployment issue."

"Of course workers who have proven for decades, how can we become agents of change or places of change rather than many initial investments such as trains, airports, or yesterday, such as vaccines. Those are SOEs that bring them to be distributed free of charge to the public," said Erick on the sidelines of the event 'Selecting the Future' at Djakarta Theater, Central Jakarta, Saturday, January 3, 2024.

In fact, Erick stated that he did not understand the mindset behind the proposal. Because, so far SOEs can contribute greatly to state income.

"So, I don't understand his mindset when we need to open up jobs, instead releasing 1.6 million jobs for just thinking that I think is too early. I don't challenge cooperatives."

"The cooperative itself already exists today, there is already a minister of cooperatives and we have done a lot of cooperation, of course, between the private world, state-owned enterprises, and cooperatives," said Erick.

Erick also ensured that SOEs would continue to work to improve the economy in Indonesia. The presence of SOEs, cooperatives, and the private sector needs to go hand in hand in order to create a balance in the investment world.

"Surely we all worked well and the assignments were done well. There were shortcomings, nothing perfect, but we saw the results today have been proven how the SOEs made a profit of Rp250 trillion."

"It has made a big contribution, almost Rp80 trillion more to the countries used for programs that are being carried out, such as health programs, food, and others," said Erick.

Previously, during a discussion at the Revised Coalition House, Jl Brawijaya X No 46. Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Wednesday (31/1), the figure of the Indonesian cooperative, Suroto PH, assessed that the presidential and vice presidential candidate pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar had a great opportunity to make BUMN a cooperative business entity.

According to him, the fate of cooperatives is only a toy from the regime to the next regime. Therefore, by making SOEs a cooperative will improve Indonesia's economy.
