Garut Resort Police (Polres) uncovered a syndicate of burglars of Alfamart and Indomaret minimarkets that often operate across regions of West Java Province (Jabar) with hundreds of millions of rupiah in material losses.

The suspect's modus operandi, he said, was to go around looking for minimarkets that were considered deserted, then in the evening the burglary was carried out by breaking into the walls of the shop.

"For the crime scene, there are 10 crime scenes, Alfamart and Indomaret from the information that has been collected that the suspects committed crimes with various tools," he said.

He added that similar cases of theft of goods at minimarkets also occurred in Tarogong Kaler District with the suspect one person who was a shop employee.

The theft was reported on January 17, 2024, which began with minimarket employees reporting theft with lost goods, namely cash from a knife amounting to Rp25 million.

"However, the results of the investigation turned out to be that the perpetrators were insiders, namely employees at the shop," he said.

As a result of his actions, all the suspects were in the Garut Police Headquarters detention cell for further examination and were charged with Article 363 paragraph 1 concerning entering someone else's house and then intending to own goods with a threat of 9 years in prison.
