Danish Queen Margrethe II Announces Resignation After 52 Years Of Order

JAKARTA - Danish Queen Margrethe II made a surprising announcement that she would step down from the throne she had occupied for 52 years. Just as she delivered her speech welcoming the turn of the year from 2023 to 2024 at the Christiansborg Palace in Amalienborg, Copenhagen, on Monday morning January 1, Queen Margrethe II will step down the throne on January 14, 2024. The date coincides with the even 52-year-old she ruled the Kingdom of Denmark and will be continued by Crown Prince Frederik as head of the country of one of the Scandinavia. The Guardian reported on Monday that Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik arrived to celebrate Christmas Mass at the Cathedral of Aarhus. Queen Margrethe, who will still hold "Her Majesty", was crowned queen on January 14, 1972 after her father, King Frederik IX, died a few days earlier.

"Saya sudah memutuskan bahwa sekarang saatnya waktu yang tepat. Pada 14 Januari 2024, 52 tahun setelah saya meneruskan ayahanda tercinta, saya akan turun tahta sebagai Ratu Denmark. Saya serahkan tahta ini kepada putra saya, Putra Mahkota Frederik," kata sang ratu dalam pidato menyambut Tahun Baru 2024 di Istana Christian IX yang juga disebut Istana Christiansborg itu.Menurut The Guardian, operasi punggung yang dijalani sang ratu pada Februari mendorongnya untuk tak lagi melanjutkan tahtanya. "Waktu terus berpacu dan penyakit semakin parah. Anda tidak bisa mengatasi hal-hal sama seperti dulu lagi," kata Ratu Margrethe, saat itu.Mengutip laman resmi istana Kerajaan Denmark, kongehuset.dk, Margrethe Alexandrine Þorhildur Ingrid, lahir pada 16 April 1940 di Amalienborg. Dia adalah putri dari Raja Frederik IX yang mangkat pada 1972 dan Ratu Ingrid yang wafat pada 2000.Sang ratu memiliki motto "Pertolongan Tuhan, cinta kasih Rakyat, (adalah) kekuatan Denmark."
