Garbage In Nusa Penida Bali Called Dispar Due To Sea Currents

JAKARTA - Piles of garbage in the waters of Nusa Penida, Bali, are caused by ocean currents and rainy seasons.

"That's why there are two, firstly ocean currents and due to the rainy season. Sea currents can bring garbage to other places including to beaches around Bali," said Tjok Bagus Pemayun in The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 14.

Meanwhile, the flow of rainwater causes garbage from outside the Island of the Gods to be carried into the waters in this area.

"The following also comes from the rainy season. As a result of the rainy season, the garbage in the river will be carried to the sea," he explained.

However, he said, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Bali already has a governor regulation (pergub) to overcome the problem of waste, including plastic waste.

First regulation of the Bali Governor Regulation Number 97 of 2018 concerning Limitation of the Prohibition of Disposable Plastic Waste.

"Especially for modern markets, we have monitored it and no more using plastic waste, while we have not monitored traditional homework for us optimally," he said.

Another regulation, he continued, is the Bali Governor Regulation Number 47 of 2019 concerning Source-Based Waste Management, which is able to prevent the spread of waste in unwanted places because waste is already managed from sources.

For hotel managers, his party has also curated three to five star hotels to commit to managing source-based waste, both from rooms, the waste in their rooms is separated between organic and nonorganic.

On the same occasion, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno said that his party would continue to pay attention to various aspects in sustainable tourism, including aspects of waste management in tourist destinations in Bali.

"So we will apply the CHSE certification aspects, namely clarity (cleanliness),health (health), safety (security), and environment sustainability (environity). Each of these parekraf facilities has good waste management," he concluded.
