JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said a resident of Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta died as a result of being affected by an earthquake with a magnitude (M) of 6.4.

"Based on the latest information, 1 resident died and 1 other was slightly injured in Bantul Regency," said Task Executor (Plt.) Head of the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in a written statement quoted on Saturday, July 1.

Meanwhile, one other person with minor injuries was in the Tegal Regency, Central Java. Abdul said the earthquake also caused light to moderate damage to 93 houses.

"Officers are still continuing to record the number of affected houses in the DIY, Central Java, and East Java areas," he said.

Furthermore, a number of facilities such as places of worship, schools, government offices, and electricity networks were also damaged.

"Slight damage to one unit of worship facilities and electricity network in Kebumen, Central Java Province. Meanwhile, in DIY, one school was damaged and five government facilities in Gunung Kidul, one unit educational facility in Bantul, and one health facility in Kulon Progo," Abdul explained.
