JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that his party would test the Green Light project as a congestion solver who collaborated with Google in 2023.
Syafrin said that the trial of projects that utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be applied to five roads in Jakarta that have a number of intersections.
"In the early stages, we will conduct trials. The trials are in the corridor starting from Jalan Imam Bonjol, Jalan Diponegoro, Jalan Proclamation, Jalan Pramuka, and Jalan Pemuda. Along this road, approximately 11 intersections are managed with traffic lights," Syafrin told reporters, Tuesday, December 13.
Syafrin admitted that he could not confirm when the implementation of the AI system in these traffic lights would run. Currently, the DKI Provincial Government is just drafting a concept to implement the Green Light project, while waiting for analysis of satellite data from Google.
"The concept is currently being prepared, 2023 is just starting to collect data, as well as analysis, then from the analysis it was submitted by Google to the Transportation Agency for us to reorganize the traffic light," said Syafrin.
For information, Jakarta became the first city in Southeast Asia to take advantage of the Green Light project to help analyze the congestion conditions of the city.
This project allows a team of researchers from Google to provide recommendations to the DKI Jakarta Government in optimizing traffic light time settings. The goal is to reduce stagnant traffic, based on anonymous traffic data and Android-based community mobility data.
By using Google's AI technology, it is hoped that this initiative will increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, improve air quality, and make driving activities safer and more enjoyable in Jakarta.
Head of the Traffic Control System Management Unit of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Emanuel Kristanto, revealed that the AI was prepared to operate in 2023 by analyzing several points at traffic intersections that often experience traffic jams.
"We don't expect the traffic jams to end immediately. It doesn't go that far, from that analysis data we want to know and unravel where the source of the traffic jam came from," Emanuel said on Wednesday, December 7.
Emanuel also hopes that in addition to reducing congestion, the use of AI can help people in vehicle fuel efficiency and help reduce pollution.
