GARUT - The Ministry of Social Affairs has prepared Social Barns in three places, namely the Districts of Garut Kota, Tarogong Kidul, and Banjarwangi, Garut Regency, West Java for disaster preparedness in the area.

"How (Social Barns) accelerate the distribution of logistics to the field so that when a disaster occurs, there is assistance," said the Director of Social Protection for Victims of Natural Disasters at the Ministry of Social Affairs, Iyan Koesmadiana at the launch of the three Social Barns, reported by ANTARA, Saturday, August 13.

He said that the Social Barn is one of the flagship programs of the Ministry of Social Affairs in addressing various community needs quickly if there are areas affected by natural disasters.

The Social Barns, which were built in the three sub-districts, he said, would provide easy and fast services for the community to obtain basic needs such as food and clean water.

The Ministry of Social Affairs in carrying out the program will synergize with the Garut Regency Social Service to provide assistance in the form of logistics quickly supplied from the warehouse of the Bandung Social Welfare Education and Training Center (BBPPKS).

"We provide shelter equipment such as for cleaning tools, then we also provide hot water and so on," he said.

Deputy Chairperson of Commission VIII DPR Ace Hasan Syadzily who was present at the launch of the Social Barn supported the Ministry of Social's program to provide services to the community more closely and quickly in meeting basic needs after a disaster occurred.

"We, Commission VIII strongly encourage that this is part of our disaster risk reduction and preparedness to face disasters," said Ace.

The Acting Regional Secretary of Garut Regency, Didit Fajar Putradi, expressed his gratitude for the attention of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Commission VIII of the DPR by providing assistance, one of which was establishing a Social Barn.

He said that previously Garut Regency had also received assistance to build a Social Barn in 2021 after the flash flood hit Karangtengah, Sukawening, and Sukaresmi sub-districts.

Garut regency government also, he said, has made various efforts to overcome quickly in the event of a natural disaster by using a budget from unexpected costs (BTT) Garut.

"We also use BTT funds to overcome several problems and especially the impact of the disaster," he said.
