JAKARTA - The Class IIA Penitentiary (Lapas) UPT Kanwil Kemenkumham Gorontalo held a dexterity competition among correctional inmates in Gorontalo City, Gorontalo Province, Tuesday 9 August.

Various traditional competitions such as sack races, tug of war, eating crackers and filling pencils in bottles were held to celebrate the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

"This is a coaching program according to standards," said Head of the Guidance Section for Prisoners and Students (Binadik) Gorontalo Prison, Kasdin Lato.

The series of activities carried out, said Kasdin, will continue for the next week.

"What is very interesting is that the activity we are doing is a competition that really stimulates the thoughts of the coaching residents to be able to have recreation with these activities," he said.

The main goal is how to shape their behavior to be better and better with sports.

"This can strengthen the ties of friendship between the inmates and officers, between the inmates and the inmates, between the inmates and the community," he explained.

Kasdin said the activities were carried out in stages, and for this week all of these activities were carried out as traditional activities.

"There are prizes for each activity, we provide prizes which are of course taken from the Correctional Institution, there are non-binding contributions from donors who are interested in these activities," explained Kasdin.

Meanwhile, Activities Implementing Officer Yulita Gobel conveyed that the WBP's physical development program through various sports and arts had begun.

"Today the Gorontalo Prison officially opens a whole series of sports, arts and agility competitions," he said.

He hopes that this activity will become a place of recreation for all WBPs to stay happy and have fun with all the limitations because they are still serving the rest of their criminal sentences.

"And to stimulate sports, art and agility activities, of course, Gorontalo Prison will prepare prizes for the champions as a form of appreciation," he said.
