JAKARTA - The General Elections Commission (KPU) together with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM) held a meeting discussing several things, from the legal entity of political parties to voter services for correctional institutions or detention centers.

"In the context of registering political parties as candidates for election, the KPU's measurement is the Decree of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights regarding the legal entities of political parties," said KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari as quoted by Antara, Friday, May 13.

The second point, continued Hasyim, is related to the KPU's legal products that require harmonization with the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and need to get priority because electoral tasks have time limits.

"Because the stages of election tasks have a time limit, we ask the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to give priority to the harmonization process and the promulgation of PKPU," said Hasyim.

Then, regarding voting services for voters in prisons/remand centres, Hasyim asked the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for support, including in the process of collecting voter list data.

Another point is facilitating voters abroad, which according to him is also the domain of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, especially the Directorate General of Immigration.

"Because this covers several ministries, the database is at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, cross-border traffic is at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Immigration), while the main database is at the Ministry of Home Affairs. With that said, there needs to be a desk between the KPU, Kemenkumham, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Home Affairs for overseas voters," said Hasyim.

The visit and coordination of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) to a number of electoral stakeholders continued on Friday (13/5).

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari along with KPU members August Mellaz, Betty Epsilon Idroos, Mochammad Afifuddin, Yulianto Sudrajat, Idham Holik, Parsadaan Harahap and Deputy for Technical Support Eberta Kawima visited the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

The aim is to build synergies and to discuss several things regarding strengthening the readiness to organize the 2024 General Election.

Menkum HAM Yasonna welcomed the visit of the Indonesian KPU and conveyed several things, such as about services for the inmates. Yasonna hopes that in the future he will be able to maintain the suffrage rights of the inmates in the 2024 General Election and Election.

"So we also hope that both our inmates and prisoners have the right to vote in elections and regional head elections," said Yasonna.

Regarding the priority of harmonization of KPU's legal products, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, according to Yasonna, is committed to assisting and accelerating it. Regarding the establishment of a desk with the KPU and related ministries, he also believes it will effectively solve problems in the field.

This is like when data collection on assisted citizens enters the voter list, or determines the requirements of candidates.

"Regarding the condition of the candidate, whether he is a pure free prisoner, no longer parole, etc., we will discuss this technically," said Yasonna.
