Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said Tuesday that his country supports the development of the use of generative artificial intelligence technology such as ChatGPT from OpenAI in the industrial sector.

Kishida met with the Microsoft-backed CEO of OpenAI (MSFT.O) in Tokyo earlier this month and reportedly said that next month's G-7 group meeting in Hiroshima will discuss "international rules" on generative artificial intelligence.

The rapid progress in AI technology further complicates the government's efforts to agree in determining the law governing the use of the technology, as national and international regulatory agencies are taking steps to regulate AI tools.

Many countries around the world are currently investing and supporting the development of AI technology. Some countries that are considered leaders in AI development are the United States, China, Japan, Britain, and Canada. However, around the world, many countries are active in developing AI technology and implementing its use in various industrial and public sectors.

Meanwhile, Italy's data protection agency on Wednesday April 12 set a deadline for OpenAI to meet data and privacy protection demands so that chatbots for artificial intelligence services can be operated again in Italy.

On March 31, Microsoft Corp-backed OpenAI deactivated ChatGPT in Italy after the agency, known as Garante, temporarily restricted and began investigations into alleged violations of privacy rules.
