JAKARTA - A company based in the United States (US), Microsoft has signed an agreement to inject US $ 100 million or the equivalent of Rp1.4 trillion into the country's online shopping platform, Bukalapak.

According to The Insider Stories report, Wednesday 4 November, this investment is part of an investment of US $ 2.5 billion to US $ 3 billion. Apart from Microsoft, this funding also comes from GIC Pte and Emtek Group.

On the other hand, Bukalapak is reportedly also going to adopt the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. This cloud will support Bukalapak's online service, which has been used by more than 12 million merchants and 100 million users.

"Through this partnership, merchants and consumers will get a more efficient and reliable buying and selling experience," said Microsoft Indonesia President Director, Haris Izmee.

Meanwhile, Bukalapak CEO Rachmat Kaimuddin said through this collaboration, Bukalapak and Microsoft would collaborate on major initiatives such as building infrastructure, eliminating the digital divide, and improving the digital skills of company employees and merchants.

"This partnership marks a deep collaboration with Microsoft on a series of technology projects that will transform technology-based trading solutions as well as operations and operations solutions in Indonesia," said Rachmat.

The latest report by Tech In Asia states that currently Indonesia is being looked at by various companies from the US due to the rapid development of cell phone use in the fourth most populous country in the world.

Bukalapak's investment came not far after Tokopedia reportedly received funding from US technology giant Google, which previously came from Singapore's Temasek.
