JAKARTA - Marcel Sabitzer admits that he likes his new position as attacking midfielder at Manchester United.
The Austrian player previously positioned as midfielder, but Red Devils coach Erik ten Hag has now placed him as attack midfielder No.10 who plays a role in filling the space behind the striker.
"Yes, my position has changed slightly in the last three or four games, so I'm a little higher. I like that. That's the best thing I can do to help the team, so I want to keep going," Marcel Sabitzer told the club's website on Saturday.
Sabitzer was brought in by the Red Devils from Bayern Munich as a loan player in the transfer market last January. He was previously plotted as a replacement for Christian Eriksen who suffered an ankle injury.
In the last four matches, Erik ten Hag has tried the formation he used when he headed Ajax Amsterdam in the 2018 season using one attacking midfielder behind the striker.
In the past, the role of attacking midfielders when in Ajax was filled by Donny Van de Beek who is now Manchester United's midfielder. Van de Beek failed to find his best form again because he was often hit by injury problems so Ten Hag now put Sabitzer in that position.
Winning the English League Cup semifinal match or FA Cup against Brighton, Sabitzer is expected to be able to perform well playing his position.
"We want to reach the final and win the final, but we know Brighton is a good opponent, with good quality. It will be a difficult match, but we are ready for that," said Sabitzer optimistically.
Reportedly, Manchester United management is quite impressed with Sabitzer's performance which is rumored to be permanent next season.
