RIAU - The Riau Police's Lancang Kuning fast boat managed to thwart the smuggling of 3 kg of crystal methamphetamine carried by a Malaysian-flagged ship while patrolling the waters of Kedabu Meeting Village, Meranti Islands, Riau.

"The smuggling was thwarted by the fast patrol boat (KPC) Lancang Kuning of the Riau Police which was patrolling the waters. At that time, officers saw that the motorboat was sailing without lighting," said Head of the Meranti Police Public Relations Subsection, AKP H Maryanto in Pekanbaru, Antara, Saturday July 24.

He revealed that suspicious officers immediately gave chase. Instead of stopping, the Malaysian-flagged ship immediately stepped on the gas through the mangrove forest.

Then, after the ship was stopped, the captain of the ship fled leaving the ship with the engine still running. During the search, officers found the three packages of methamphetamine were packaged in plastic with a weight of 1 kg each.

Apart from methamphetamine, officers also found various other illegal items, namely 45 sacks of used clothes, 35 used mattresses and 25 sacks of salt and 167 sacks of shallots, as well as 9 sacks of used shoes.

AKP H Maryanto explained that the officers who carried out the search found the passports that allegedly belonged to the skipper's order and currently the customer and the ship's owner are being hunted.
