Police Denies Members Of Osimin Wenda's Armed Group Benny Wenda's Family, Only Clans Not Birth Family

JAKARTA - The police confirmed that the member of the armed group Osimin Wenda alias Usimin Telenggen (30) who had been arrested was not related to the chairman of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), Benny Wenda. Although, they both have the same surname.

"It's not just the clan. So it's just the clan, not the biological family," said the Director of Special Crimes at the Papua Police, Kombes Faisal Ramadani to reporters, Friday, July 23.

In addition, Ramadani briefly explained the process of arresting Osimin Wenda which took place on Thursday, July 22. At that time, Osimin Wenda, who was about to enter Mulia City, Papua, was immediately arrested by the team that had been following him for some time.

"He came from outside the city or district to enter Mulia City. So we have followed him, and before entering the city we immediately arrested him," said Ramadani.

During the arrest process, Osimin Wenda did not put up any resistance. In addition, no firearms or sharp weapons were found on him.

"There is no (weapons). Yes, he was alone when he entered the city," said Ramadani.

Wenda was arrested by the Papua Regional Police Special Team on July 15, 2013 and sentenced to life in 2014. However, on January 18, 2018, he escaped from the Abepura prison, and was involved in the shooting of an ojek driver on behalf of Yanmar in Popome Village, Lanny Jaya Regency, and was involved in a shootout. with Nemangkawi personnel in Popome Village in 2018.

Wenda was actively involved in a number of shootings at the KKB and kept changing groups because previously, apart from joining Puron Wenda, he also joined Lekagak Telenggen.

In fact, from the available data, it was revealed that Osimin Wenda was involved in the attack on the Pirime Police in November 2012, including the shooting of the Papuan Police Chief, Tito Karnavian at that time.
