JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) recommends the public to slaughter sacrificial animals at the Slaughterhouse (RPH), according to the request of the Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin.

The call for the slaughter of sacrificial animals was conveyed by the Secretary General of the MUI, Amirsyah Tambunan when contacted by Antara in Jakarta on Monday, July 19.

Amirsyah said that slaughtering sacrificial animals at the RPH was intended so that people could maintain health protocols by not creating crowds.

"If there is no RPH, it will be done in a place that is safe from the crowd so that it can be carried out according to health protocols," said Amirsyah.

Amirsyah also advised the public to perform Eid al-Adha prayers in congregation with family members in their respective homes.

Not only that, according to Amirsyah, the public must apply faith, immunity, and safety when celebrating Eid al-Adha in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said people need to strengthen their faith by reading the Koran a lot and studying religious knowledge.

Not only that, Amirsyah also said that maintaining immunity and personal security is also important.

"Listening to lectures makes you feel at home. It is mandatory to (maintain) immunity by eating halal and good food," said Amirsyah.

"Then it must be safe, avoiding crowds," he said.

Previously, the government had determined that Eid al-Adha 1442 H falls on Tuesday (20/7).

However, seeing the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, the government also implemented an Emergency Community Activity Restriction (PPKM) until July 20, 2021, to coincide with the Eid al-Adha holiday.

The implementation of the PPKM has limited community activities, including not being able to perform Eid al-Adha prayers in congregation at the mosque.

This policy was carried out to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
