NTB Coastal Residents Are Advised To Beware Of Rob Floods

Residents in the coastal areas of the island of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) are advised to remain alert to potential tidal flooding by the end of 2024. This was stated by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

"Early warning of the potential for tidal flooding in the coastal areas of Lombok is effective from 14-19 December 2024," Head of Meteorological Station ZAM Lombok Satria Topan Primadi, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, December 14.

The BMKG stated that weather conditions for the next week are forecasted to be cloudy to moderate rain with a wind direction and speed of 5-20 knots to the southwest-northwest.

Then, wave height 0.5 2.0 meters with a maximum tide of 1.8 meters.

"The tide time is 20.00 24.00 WITA," he said.

With this phenomenon, people around the coast of Lombok, riverbanks and lower areas are advised to remain vigilant and alert to anticipate the impact of the maximum tide, such as tidal flooding.

"Residents are expected to remain vigilant, so that unwanted things do not happen," he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that there was an increase in rain, so that the Province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) was prepared for hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides and fallen trees in December 2024.

"There has been an increase in rainfall, NTB is on standby for hydrometeorological disasters," said BMKG NTB forecaster Bastian Andarino.

BMKG stated that on the basis of December 2024 (11 December 20, 2024) there is an opportunity for rainfall of >100 millimeters/basis in almost all regions in West Nusa Tenggara Province with a probability of 70 percent to more than 90 percent.

There is an opportunity for rainfall of >150 mm/basis that occurs on the island of Lombok in general with a probability of 40 percent to 80 percent.

"Meanwhile, Sumbawa Island is dominated by the probability of 10 percent to more than 80 (Tambora area)," he concluded.
