The Tanjungpinang Customs and Excise Team thwarted an attempt to smuggle suspected 1 kilogram (kg) of methamphetamine at Sri Bayintan Kijang Port, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province (Kepri).

Head of the Tanjungpinang Customs Office, Tri Hartana, said that the disclosure of the drug case took place on Saturday, March 9, at around 20.00 WIB.

"This started when our team was monitoring passengers' belongings at Sri Bayintan Kijang Port, profiling prospective passengers on the Bukit Raya ship on the Kijang-Blinyu-Tanjung Priok route," Tri said at a press conference in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, Thursday, March 14, which was confiscated by Antara.

"In this active case, Tanjungpinang Customs and Excise coordinates and synergizes with the Special DJBC Regional Office for Riau Islands and the Bintan Police," said Tri.

Tri conveyed that based on these findings, Tanjungpinang Customs and Excise took action, affirmation and handover of perpetrators and goods suspected of having methamphetamine to the Bintan Police Narcotics Unit.
