Anies Claims Covid-19 Treatment Capacity Is Sufficient If There Is A Increase In Cases After Long Holidays

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan anticipates a high increase in COVID-19 cases after the long holiday from October 28 to November 1 ends.

Even so, Anies claims that the capacity of inpatient care beds and ICU for COVID-19 patients is still available in the event of a spike in cases after the long holiday at the end of October.

"As of last Saturday, the hospitalization capacity for COVID-19 was 55 percent and ICU was 60 percent. So, if there is a spike in (COVID-19 cases), be ready to accommodate it," said Anies at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 2.

This anticipation is reflected in the spike in COVID-19 cases after the long holiday commemorating Indonesian Independence Day in mid-August.

The increase in cases has made the capacity for COVID-19 care and isolation in Jakarta increasingly depleted. At that time, Anies was forced to apply an emergency brake in the form of a PSBB back in Jakarta for a month.

Because of that, before the long holiday took place, Anies admitted that he had asked the RW task force to advise his residents. If there are residents who have recently traveled or on vacation and experience symptoms, immediately go to the puskesmas for observation.

"So that if there are symptoms it can be detected early. If necessary, testing is done. Because, we know that if there is a long holiday in August, there will be a spike in cases. That's what we anticipate," he said.

Anies continued, the public must always wear a mask when traveling so that they can avoid potential transmission of COVID-19 and prevent transmission to other people.

"I often say that the way to respect the other person is wearing a mask. Especially if there are no symptoms, it is very worrying not to wear a mask. My message is to gather with people we know, relatives or coworkers, masks are still used," he said.
