Students In Banjarmasin Who Take Part In The Demonstration Are Threatened With Not Going To Class

JAKARTA - Head of SMAN 3 Banjarmasin City Syarifuddin emphasized that his party would impose strict sanctions on his students who took part in a demonstration against the Job Creation Law.

"We will not tolerate students who are proven to have participated in a demonstration. There are sanctions that must be given, starting from not being given the grade of a subject until not graduating," said Head of SMAN 3 Banjarmasin City Syarifuddin in Banjarmasin, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, October 27.

According to him, the duty of a student is to learn to follow learning in school so that it is not justified in the school discipline rules for a student to participate in activities such as demonstrations.

"Moreover, demonstrations have nothing to do with the interests of students and schools. In fact, students caught by the police so far admit to only following along and inviting social media," said Syarifuddin.

He admitted, the condition of studying from home or studying online during the COVID-19 pandemic was indeed quite difficult for him to supervise students.

To that end, Syarifuddin asked parents to take an active role in monitoring their children's activities so that they do not get involved in negative activities outside the home.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Education and Culture Office of South Kalimantan Province Muhammad Yusuf Effendi has issued a Circular on the Prohibition of Student Involvement in Demonstrations with Potential Violence.

Yusuf asked the principal and teachers to take preventive measures. The school must ensure that students are not involved in demonstrations that have the potential to lead to violence, chaos and destruction.

"Principals and teachers must impose sanctions on students who are involved in demonstrations in accordance with school rules," he said.

Based on reports submitted by the South Kalimantan Regional Police's Intelligence Directorate, students will hold a demonstration on Wednesday (28/10) in Banjarmasin along with the momentum to commemorate Youth Pledge Day on every 28 October.

Previously, the South Kalimantan Regional Police arrested 374 people who were suspected of infiltrating the student action in front of the South Kalimantan DPRD on Jalan Lambung Mangkurat Banjarmasin on Thursday (15/10). Of the group that was secured, including the 13 women, most of them were students, laborers and unemployed. Some brought firecrackers and were under the influence of liquor.

A total of five people tested positive for using drugs. Apart from the urine test, the police also carried out a rapid COVID-19 test with five reactive results.

Those who had been arrested for one day were returned to the family. Meanwhile, one person carrying a sharp weapon is prosecuted according to the law.
