SURABAYA - Thousands of people in East Java will again hold a demonstration against the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law. The demonstration will be held by elements from workers to students.

Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Indonesian Metal Workers Union (FSPMI) East Java, Nurudin Hidayat, said that the thousands of people were members of the Movement Against Omnibus Law (Getol) which occurred themselves from a number of elements. The demands urge the government to revoke the Job Creation Law which is deemed to be detrimental to the community, including workers.

"The main point of the demonstration will be centered on the Grahadi State building. But previously we will move long march from the gathering point at the Surabaya Zoo (KBS) to Grahadi," said Nurudin, confirmed, Monday, October 19.

The demonstration that was held was said to be an expression of disappointment with the central government for not accommodating workers' demands. The workers demanded that President Jokowi issue a Perppu to repeal the Job Creation Law.

"Previously, the 25th team had met with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD by the Governor of East Java Khofifah. From that meeting we asked for the revocation of the Omnibus Law. However, we are advised to take legal action by suing through the Constitutional Court (MK). From there our demands are not accommodated," he said. .

Therefore, Nurudin emphasized that the labor union would not stop taking to the streets until the government revoked the Omnibus Law. Even if it is still ignored, his party will hold a large-scale action.

"We will take action until our demands are repealed from the Omnibus Law. That's a fixed price," said Nurudin.

The simultaneous action against the Job Creation Law was carried out simultaneously in several areas including Surabaya, on Thursday 8 October until it ended in chaos.
