Police Detain Papua New Guinean Citizen Who Brings Ammunition
JAYAPURA - Police Keerom, Papua, detained Bostian Kwasa Mai (56 years), a citizen of Papua New Guinea (PNG), because he was caught carrying ammunition.
"Indeed, the ammunition found in his bag was only one piece, but it would be dangerous if it was given to an irresponsible person," said Keerom Police Chief AKBP Christian Aer, quoted by Antara, Saturday, July 17.
Christian said the ammunition found in Bostian's plastic bag was 5.56mm caliber.
Related to this case, Bostian is subject to Article 1 paragraph 1 of the Emergency Law no. 12 of 1951 with a threat of 10 years in prison.
The case began with the suspicion of members of the border security task force from Infantry Battalion 131/BRS during a sweep on the evening of Sunday, July 11, to check the completeness of the documents for 13 PNG citizens.
It turned out that the PNG citizen did not have any documents and one of them was carrying ammunition so it was secured and handed over to the Keerom Police, Monday, July 12.
"From the results of the investigation carried out by investigators, it was revealed that they came to mourn because a family in Waris had died," said Aer.
According to Aer, in several areas in Keerom, the residents still have kinship with PNG residents.
"Finally, after coordinating with the PNG Consulate in Jayapura, the 13 people were returned to their country, while another person, Bostia Mai, remains in the legal process and is currently still being held at the Keerom Police Headquarters in Arso," explained AKBP Christian Aer.
Keerom Regency is one of the areas in Papua which is directly adjacent to Papua New Guinea, while other areas are Jayapura City, Merauke Regency, Boven Digul and Bintang Mountains Regency.
