Dogecoin Creator Regrets Not Hodl DOGE, Billy Mark Finally Makes Buyback
JAKARTA – One of the creators of Dogecoin, Billy Markus, regrets selling his ownership of DOGE in 2015. The creator of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency revealed that in 2014 Dogecoin was priced at US$ 0.0002624 or around Rp. 3.81. While the price of Bitcoin is still at 624 US dollars (around Rp. 9 million).
At the time of writing, the price of Dogecoin was at the level of 0.193418 US dollars or Rp. 2.806 according to data from Coinecko. Markus uploaded a post on his Twitter account @BillyM2k comparing the prices of Dogecoin and Bitcoin in 2014. He also added that at that time Ethereum had not yet been born.
Markus regrets not holding the Dogecoin that was created from the start. Because the price of Dogecoin has increased in recent months. Although Ethereum wasn't born in 2014, it is currently the second cryptocurrency after Bitcoin by market cap.
Launching Cryptoglobe, Markus argues that if you invested 100 US dollars (Rp. 1,450,000) in Dogecoin in 2014 it could now be worth almost 90,000 US dollars (around Rp. 1.3 billion). However, Markus prefers to keep his money in a savings account rather than in crypto.
By 2015, Markus had sold his entire Dogecoin cryptocurrency holdings. The proceeds from the sale were used to purchase a used Honda Civic.
When interviewed by Bloomberg, Markus justified the sale because he had been laid off and felt blessed to be able to “save his time”. In order to survive, Markus sells his Dogecoin.
He also admitted that he did not expect the price of Dogecoin to skyrocket from Rp. 3.81 to the current price, which is in the range of Rp. 2,800 to Rp. 3,400. At the beginning of 2021, Dogecoin has touched its all-time high, which was at the level of Rp. 10,338 on 8 May.
Last June, Markus bought back Dogecoin for the first time in eight years. However, the DOGE creator did not reveal how many coins he bought.
