Lockheed Forms A Subsidiary To Help Defense Companies Adopt AI
JAKARTA Lockheed Martin announced on Monday December 16 that the company has formed a new subsidiary that aims to help US defense companies adopt artificial intelligence (AI) in their operations.
In recent years, companies from various sectors have increasingly relied on AI to optimize their workflows. However, defense companies are still cautious, given the sensitive data needed to train AI models in this sector.
Earlier this month, private defense technology company Anduril Industries collaborated with OpenAI, the ChatGPT developer, to develop and implement advanced AI solutions in national security missions.
The new Lockheed subsidiary is named Astris AI. Astris AI will not only focus on AI solutions for defense but will also facilitate the application of AI technology in several commercial sectors.

Industry executives state that the US administration's efficiency plan promoted by President-elect Donald Trump, involving Elon Musk, could open up wider cooperation opportunities between large defense contractors and small technology companies in areas such as artificial intelligence, drones, and unmanned submarines.
Lockheed's move marks the latest effort to bridge the technology industry with the defense sector to maximize AI's potential in more effective and efficient operations.
