Google Launches Safety Reset Feature To Protect Chromebooks From Viruses

JAKARTA Google has launched ChromeOS M131, the latest software for Chromebooks, in a stable version. This update includes many new features, one of which is a Safety Reset to protect the device.

Safety Reset is a security feature designed to reset devices without losing any data. This feature can be used if Chromebook users download the virus accidentally so they need to protect the device as quickly as possible.

Unlike Powerwash which removes all data in the device, Safety Reset will continue to store local data and applications. This security feature only deletes cookies and temporary site data and disables extensions.

"Thanks to this feature, now there is a way to return your device to a condition you feel comfortable with no more damage," Google says on the Help page. "This feature gives users how to return to a known condition (before there was a problem)."

Safety Reset can be accessed quickly using shortcuts so users don't need to manually open Settings. They only need to press the CTRL + Shift + Search + R button on the keyboard.

If users still want to access it manually, they can open Settings, then search for the features in the Security and Privacy menu. Users can also search for the feature with Spam or Virus keywords in the search bar.

Although already available in the stable version, the launch of M131 is still being carried out in stages. "The features associated with it will be rolled out in stages in the coming days. Your device may not immediately qualify for this update."
