Indonesia Wins 11 Gold Medals At China's Wing Chun Championship

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Wing Chun National Team won eleven gold medals at the 2024 International Wing Chun Competition in Foshan, Guangdong, China, on December 12-15.

"Our national athletes managed to bring home 11 gold medals along with three silver and one bronze medals at the international wing professional event in China," said Wing Chun Indonesia National Team Manager Sher Lie in a written statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.

All of the medals were contributed by six athletes, namely Excel Fernando Ferdiansyah who won three gold medals for the categories of Zixuan Quan, Qingnianqian, and Batchamdao, Jessie Djalimin also won three gold medals for the Zixuan Quan category, Qingnianqian.

Michael Arrollmen won two gold medals for the Zixuan Quan and Qingnianqian categories, as well as one silver medal for the Batchamdao category, Shakira Marini Putri won one gold in the Qingnianqian category, and two silver in the Zixuan Quan and Batchamdao categories.

Then, Carlson Sasmita contributed one gold in the Chumkiu category and one bronze in the Bat Jam Dao category, and Rio Noviansyach Sutomo who received one gold in the Batchamdao category.

Sher Lie said this achievement was very proud because the athletes competed with around 3,000 participants, 300 of whom were from outside China.

He said Indonesia's success in winning 11 gold medals could not be separated from the coaching program by the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board led by Airlangga Hartarto.

Airlangga brought Wushu Indonesia to increase the record of wushu and wingmen's achievements.

"After the athletes Sanda and Taolu who have made international achievements, now it's the turn of winger athletes to prove it. The potential is big enough to bring the name of the Indonesian nation and state to life," he said.

Deputy Chair I of the Indonesian Wushu Executive Board, Iwan Kwok, praised the appearance of Indonesian athletes in the international championship.

He thanked the Ministry of Youth and Sports and PB Wushu management for supporting the development of winger athletes in Indonesia.

"With these various supports, our national team is the first time to appear but is able to achieve proud achievements," said Iwan.
