Head of the Simeulue Regency Tourism Office, Asmanuddin, said that over the past week 112 foreign tourists visited the beach, which is famous for surfing tourism objects because of the waves.

"Survey tourism objects on Matanurung Beach are increasingly in demand by foreign tourists. In the past week alone, 112 foreign tourists visited the place," said Asmanuddin as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, June 3.

According to Asmanuddin, not only on Matanurung Beach, foreign tourists also like a number of other beaches on Simeulue Island. In addition to its natural beauty, beaches on Simeulue Island have waves that are suitable for those who like to surf.

"These foreign tourists are also interested in visiting because the beaches are still natural and well maintained. Of course, this is a capital for the Simeulue Regency Government to develop beach tourism, especially wave surfing," said Asmanuddin.

Apart from foreign tourists, domestic or domestic tourists have also visited Simeulue Island in the past week. Especially on weekends, there are several long holidays.

Asmanuddin said the impact of tourist visits was the recovery of the community economy, specifically for the tourism sector, which had previously been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We also invite entrepreneurs to develop the existing tourism potential, so that tourist visits to Simeulue Island continue to increase. Increasing tourist visits will certainly have an impact on the economic growth of the community," said Asmanuddin.

Simeulue Regency is the outermost archipelago region in Aceh Province. Simeulue Island is located in the Indian Ocean, which is about 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.

Simeulue Regency has been a expansion of West Aceh Regency since 1999. Simeulue Regency has 10 sub-districts with 138 gampongs or villages inhabited by around 94 thousand people.
