Discussing The Batam PLN Business, The Ministry Of Energy And Mineral Resources Sahkan RUPTL
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Directorate General of Electricity (Gatrix) supports PT PLN Batam's commitment to increasing the reliability of electricity supply through the ratification of the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).
"Through the ratification of the RUPTL, it is hoped that the electricity system of PT PLN Batam can be achieved which is more reliable for industrial needs, businesses including data centers and households which in turn can increase investment in Batam," said the Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P. Hutajulu, quoted on Saturday, May 27.
Jisman explained, previously on May 19, 2023, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif had approved the RUPTL of PT PLN Batam 2023-2032 through the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 93.K/TL.01/MEM.L/2023 concerning the Ratification of the Business Plan for the Provision of Electricity for PT Batam National Electricity Services from 2023 to 2032.
Currently, the electricity supply of PT PLN Batam is entirely sourced from fossil power plants consisting of 142.5 MW gas-fueled power plants and 39 MW of Fuel Oil (BBM) operated by PT PLN Batam.
"In addition, there are also gas-fueled plants of 315.4 MW and 99 MW of coal in collaboration with Independent Power Producers (IPP)," he continued.
Previously, PT PLN Batam had a RUPTL, but the plan for the generator in the RUPTL has not been able to keep up with the increase in the need for electricity and has not anticipated tenant demands for green energy needs.
In the 2023-2032 RUPTL, PT PLN Batam projects that the demand for electricity in the next 10 years will increase with an average growth of around 6 percent per year. This increase in demand will be supplied with an additional power of 860 MW consisting of PLTS 126 MW, PLTG 50 MW, PLTGU 159 MW and PLTMG 125 MW as well as and inter-regional cooperation with PT PLN (Persero) 400 MW.
This is the first time PT PLN Batam has a RUPTL with a significant jump in the EBT mix target of up to 24 percent in 2026 and continues to increase gradually until it reaches 35 percent in 2032. The increase in the EBT mix will be achieved by developing PLTS on Batam Island and distributing EBT-based electricity from the Sumatra grid through the Sumatra-Batam interconnect later.
"Proyeksi babaran EBT yang pada akhir periode RUPTL sebelumnya hanya sekitar 0,5 persen dan meningkat pada RUPTL terbaru menjadi sekitar 35 persen, lebih tinggi dari target nasional tahun 2032. Hal ini sejalan dengan semangat pemerintah dalam mendorong transisi energi menuju Net Zero Emission (NZE)," beber Jisman
To implement the plan in the PT PLN Batam RUPTL, Jisman mentioned the importance of the contribution and active role of stakeholders including PT PLN (Persero) in realizing the Sumatra-Batam-Bintan Interconnection. He hopes that stakeholders can support the realization of the reliability of electricity supply in Batam.
