Riau Police Reveals Underprivates Controlling Drug Trafficking In Prisons
PeKANBARU - Riau Police destroyed 13.26 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 269 ecstasy pills in Pekanbaru from six cases with 15 suspects and one of them was an individual guard controlling drugs in prisons.
The destruction of evidence, which was attended by a number of Riau Police officials, was carried out by mixing the illicit powder into a container that had been filled with water so that it would dissolve and could no longer be consumed.
Deputy Riau Police Chief Brigadier General Pol Kasihan Rahmadi during the disclosure of the case, explained that one of the suspects in this case was a guards at the Rumbai Narcotics Correctional Institution (Lapas), Pekanbaru, with the initials IS.
"The modus operandi carried out by the suspect is still an old mode. There is an international network, then it is controlled by people in prisons," said Rahmadi, Tuesday, May 23.
IS guards act as pickers after the entry of illegal drugs from Malaysia to Indonesia. Not alone, he invited his brother HO. IS was the one who secured the methamphetamine before being sent outside Riau Province.
He said Riau's geographical factors were a strategic place for irresponsible perpetrators to find loopholes for drug entry.
The Riau Police have made various efforts to monitor and supervise. It has also given attention in vulnerable areas.
"Drug cases are still quite concerning. The Kapolda has instructed the police to enforce the law. In addition, collaboration with community and religious leaders is also important to prevent and reduce drug abuse," concluded Rahmadi.
