Twitter's New CEO, Linda Yaccarino, Inspired By Elon Musk's Vision To Transform Social Media Platforms

JAKARTA - Linda Yaccarino, Twitter's newly appointed CEO, said in a tweet on Saturday May 13 that she was inspired by the vision of Twitter's current owner, Elon Musk, to create a better future and she is excited to help transform this social media platform.

This is the first time Yaccarino has spoken publicly since news emerged on Thursday 11 May that he is in talks to become Twitter's next CEO. Musk, who has served as CEO since acquiring Twitter in October, announced his appointment on Friday, May 12.

"I have long been inspired by [Musk's] vision to create a better future. I am excited to help realize this vision on Twitter and change this business together!" Yaccarino tweeted.

Thank you @elonmusk! I’ve long been inspired by your vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together! https://t.co/BcvySu7K76

Yaccarino, who previously served as head of advertising for Comcast Corp's NBCUniversal, has spent several years modernizing his company's advertising business. He said he was committed to Twitter's future and said user feedback was critical to building Twitter 2.0.

Yacarino will take over social media platforms that are trying to recover ad revenue reduction and are faced with various challenges, as well as a huge debt burden.

Since Musk acquired Twitter, advertisers have left the platform for fear their ads could appear alongside inappropriate content after the company lost nearly 80% of staff. Musk earlier this year acknowledged that Twitter was experiencing a huge decline in advertising revenue.

Although Musk said Yaccarino would help build "all apps" that he previously said could offer services such as inter-friend payments, his election for an advertising veteran suggests that digital advertising will remain the main focus of this business.

Musk has long said he intends to find a new leader for Twitter.

Musk, who also serves as CEO of electric car manufacturer Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), on Friday said that the arrival of Yaccarino as Twitter's new head would help him devote more time to Tesla.
