Nintendo Switch Sales Drop, Version 2 Claimed To Fail To Launch!
JAKARTA - Nintendo has experienced poor revenue over the past two years, with Switch sales down for the second time in a row.
Seeing this, the company also expects it to happen again in the following year. Based on Nintendo's report for its full fiscal year, which took place from April 2022 and ended March 31 this year, its revenue reached 1.6 trillion yen (IDR 174 trillion).
Despite meeting its own estimates, the company has decreased 5.5 percent from year-on-year (YoY). Nintendo's net profit is around 432.7 billion yen (Rp47.1 trillion) for the fiscal year, down more than 9 percent YoY.
However, that's better than the company's own estimate of 370 billion yen. Where the Switch sold only 17.97 million units in that physical year, which was below 23.06 million units from 2021 to 2022 and the 2020 to 2021 peak was 28.83 million units.
"(This is because) the shortage of semiconductors and other components has an impact on production until around the end of the summer and (the company) has not experienced sales growth, especially during the holiday season," Nintendo was quoted as saying by CNBC International, Wednesday, May 10.
For the fiscal year ending March 2024, Nintendo expects sales of 15 million Switch units. Unfortunately, due to a sharp decline, it is estimated that Nintendo Switch 2 will not be revealed in the near future.
