JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health involves epidemiologists to predict the number of COVID-19 cases in the peak period of the trend of increasing cases currently occurring.

"The prediction of the peak of cases is still being studied by epidemiologists. There has been no official statement from the Ministry of Health regarding the peak of cases," said Head of the Communication and Public Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 3.

Daily cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia are reported to be experiencing an increase caused by a number of new Corona variants including Kraken and Arcturus.

Reporting from the daily report released by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, there has been an increase in the number of cases in a number of indicators of the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

The increase in cases began as of April 29, 2023, with 2,074 confirmed cases. This figure is the highest achievement in the last 10 months of the pandemic in Indonesia.

Today, the trend of increasing cases is still happening. Confirmation figures reported at 2,647 cases with an increase in the rate of active cases of 1,502 cases.

The Ministry of Health reported that 3,245 patients were hospitalized today. The number of patients treated in the last two weeks has increased from 1,521 to 2,966 people.

Hospital occupancy in the last two weeks has increased from 3.63 percent to 7.03 percent.

Death cases have reportedly increased since early April 2023. The most significant increase occurred on April 28, 2023 with 37 deaths, then today it has decreased to 25 deaths.

Referring to the provisions of the World Health Organization (WHO), the COVID-19 situation in Indonesia is still under control.

WHO has set a level 1 threshold for the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia to a maximum of 8,000 cases per day.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Mohammad Syahril appealed to the public to be more careful and alert to the threat of COVID-19 transmission.

The most effective prevention efforts that can be carried out by the community are disciplined in implementing health protocols, especially wearing masks when sick and in crowds.

The public is also advised to always pay attention to their health and immune system, obey, and be disciplined in complying with government regulations and reminding others to be disciplined in implementing a clean and healthy lifestyle.

"The key is health protocols, with discipline in implementing these guidelines, it is hoped that it can minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission, especially in places where the crowd level is high," he said.
