Donald Trump's World Police Hegemony

JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump initiated the establishment of the Board of Peace (BoP) to oversee the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The US government followed up on the establishment of the BoP by sending invitations and a charter of establishment to a number of countries to join as members of the BoP.

However, the search conducted by the New York Post, assessed that Trump hoped that BoP could be involved in various global conflicts, not just those in the Gaza Strip. No wonder, if a number of critics consider the Trump administration seems to shape BoP as a potential rival to the United Nations (UN). Moreover, Trump himself has long accused the UN of having a liberal bias and wasteful budget.

As chairman of the Peace Council, Trump will have a huge influence. The charter gives Trump a considerable amount of personal power as chairman. It is stated that Trump has the right to appoint a second member of the "Executive Council" to implement the council's decisions, as well as have a broad veto over the council's actions. Trump is also allowed to appoint his own successor. In addition, Trump is allowed to issue resolutions or other directives to carry out the council's mission, as well as form, modify, or dissolve subsidiary entities.

Moreover, the UN Security Council then officially supported the establishment of the BoP through a resolution designed by the US last November, thus providing international legitimacy. The resolution, mandates the BoP to cooperate with various governments in recruiting international peacekeepers for Gaza.

The BoP's charter does not detail how they will work, including how much oversight the BoP will have over Gaza and how long the role will last. However, two subcommittees that report directly to the Trump-led council have been formed to carry out the Gaza peace plan.

The White House itself appointed a "Gaza Executive Council" consisting of Jared Kushner (the president's son-in-law), Steve Witkoff (Trump's emissary) and involving officials from Qatar, Egypt, as well as an Israeli businessman. However, Israel criticized the composition of the committee, especially regarding the presence of Qatar and Turkey, which were accused of having excessive closeness to Hamas.

In addition, the White House also issued a statement detailing the three-tiered power structure of the BoP. Quoted from Al Jazeera, in this structure the US-led "Executive Council", consisting of billionaires and figures close to Israel, is at the top of the hierarchy. The Founder's Executive Council is at the highest position in the structure, while also holding control over the budget, setting strategic vision, including having a veto.

BoP Mechanism Still Beneficial to Israel

Unfortunately, while the BoP is still in process, Israel still carries out attacks on the Gaza Strip. In fact, in addition to joining the BoP, Israel has also signed a peace agreement that has been in effect since October 2025. International relations expert, Dinna Prapto Raharja revealed, since the original format of the BoP is not as described by Trump when speaking at the UN Security Council. The reason is that the format that is desired in the UN Security Council must clearly be step by step through the negotiation process between countries. While the Trump-style BoP puts forward the way the US solves problems.

"Well, Israel knows. Israel knows all this. That's why if we look at Israel, even in its own country, it is trying to find ways to hinder, like the Turkish party who is banned from entering Israel. Then Israel also said that there is no hope that anyone can carry out activities in Gaza without their permission. So we can see that the things that are developing in Israel itself will actually hinder this BoP," he explained.

Therefore, President Prabowo Subianto is asked to be careful considering Indonesia's credibility has now fallen because of its entry as a member of the BoP. Dinna stated that in order for the dignity and dignity of the Indonesian nation to return, the government must be able to assert the position that Indonesia cannot be steered by the unclear agenda of the US, such as the BoP working mechanism.

"It's better for us to just leave because the moment is right now. Israel clearly does not respect what is going on in the BoP. Okay, if that's the case, what is the punishment for Israel as a member of the BoP. If we look at the mechanism, the BoP does not have any sanctions from the US. That should be Indonesia's note from the beginning," he concluded.

Dinna added, setting aside the role of Hamas also does not create a stable mechanism. Because, in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that has lasted for decades, it is unlikely that a stable point of peace will be immediately achieved. Moreover, the administration that will be implemented will be installed unilaterally by the US.

He emphasized, the BoP working mechanism should start from a point where there is one country whose territory is taken over by another country and there is widespread violence against civilians. In fact, there is still a bombardment of places where civilians should be protected. The mechanism should have been anticipated by the BoP. Therefore, Israel must first be held accountable for what it has done so far against the Palestinians, the land and then the citizens, considering that these two things are the basic essence of sovereignty.

"Nonsense lah kita bicara two state solution.

"So, Indonesia should be more observant. In fact, according to me, it is much more dignified that we are outside of the BoP. Because the situation in the Middle East, if we are too close and not careful, especially with Donald Trump whose mood is changing, then the risk is to us as a nation. Our foreign policy is considered not careful," continued Dinna.

UNS International Relations Expert, Septyanto Galan Prakoso assessed that, although it is considered an alternative solution to peace in Gaza, the establishment of the BoP will broadly benefit the US. The reason is that important decisions will be made without strict voting mechanisms, giving Donald Trump significant power as the BoP Chairman. This is what raises international skepticism because the organization's principles and objectives are unclear and there are concerns that the solutions and actions taken by the BoP have the potential to divide the existing international cooperation framework at the UN. In addition, the BoP is considered not fully in line with the spirit of the two-state solution that is globally recognized by the UN and multilateral diplomacy.

"The dominance and central role of the US as a party capable of initiating solutions related to the Gaza issue. This could end up as a populist action of the Trump regime. The US is a major power, and its influence is very strong, especially in the Middle East. "

"On the other hand, the BoP is seen as a potential new tool to promote a two-state solution (an idea to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the establishment of two states living side by side peacefully). For member countries such as Indonesia, joining this organization is seen as an opportunity to ensure that the transition process in Gaza is consistent with the two-state principle and respects the rights of the Palestinian people," concluded Septyanto.
