There Are East Kalimantan And Bali, These Are The 10 Richest Provinces In Indonesia In 2025

YOGYAKARTA - Not all regions in Indonesia have the same economic power. Several provinces recorded rapid developments so that they managed to contribute a large number to the national economy. This can be seen from the high value of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) which is the main indicator of the economic strength of an area.

PDRB reflects the added value of all economic activities in an area for a certain period of time. The greater the GDRB of a province, the stronger the competitiveness of the economy both nationally and globally. This indicator is often used as a reference for governments, business actors, and academics to understand the potential of an area.

The following are the 10 richest provinces in Indonesia in 2025 based on data from the ADHB PDRB (on the basis of applicable prices) from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

As the nation's capital, DKI Jakarta dominates the national economy with a GDRB of around Rp. 3,500 trillion. The trade sector, financial services, and real estate are the main pillars. Not only that, but the creative industry is also growing rapidly in this metropolitan city.

Jakarta's contribution to national GDP reached more than 17 percent. No wonder Jakarta has always been an investment center, as well as a magnet for workers from various regions.

East Java has a GDP of around Rp2,800 trillion and is the largest industrial center in the eastern region of Java. Surabaya as the provincial capital played a major role in the distribution of national logistics.

The manufacturing, agricultural and trade industry sectors are the backbone of the economy. This potential makes East Java one of the provinces with the most stable growth.

With the largest population in Indonesia, West Java has a GDP of IDR 2,700 trillion. This area is known as the national manufacturing center, especially the textile and automotive industries.

The closeness to Jakarta has made West Java a strategic location for industrial and residential areas. This also encourages rapid economic growth in the capital buffer zone.

Central Java's GRDP in 2025 reached around Rp1,900 trillion. Semarang City and its surroundings are developing as logistics and trade centers. The garment, agriculture, and tourism sectors are the main pillars of the province's economy.

East Kalimantan has a GDRB of IDR 1,700 trillion with the main sector of coal, oil and gas mining. In addition, the development of the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) also has a positive impact on economic growth in this region. East Kalimantan is also the richest province outside Java.

Riau noted that the GDRB is around Rp. 1,600 trillion thanks to the oil and gas sector and oil palm plantations. The manufacturing industry is also growing rapidly in this province. This makes this province one of the important economic centers in Sumatra.

As a buffer for the capital city, Banten is growing rapidly with a GRDP of IDR 1,500 trillion. Many large industrial areas stand in this province. Its leading sector includes the chemical, automotive, and logistics industries. A strategic geographical position has made Banten increasingly attractive to investors.

North Sumatra recorded a GDP of IDR 1,400 trillion. The city of Medan as a business and trade center supports the economic development of this province. The oil palm plantation sector, transportation, and the processing industry are the backbone.

Bali has a GDP of around Rp900 trillion even though its territory is small. The tourism sector is the largest contributor with creative and culinary economic support.

Post-pandemic recovery has made tourist visits increase rapidly. Bali also remains an icon of tourism and the Indonesian economy.

South Sulawesi has a GDP of IDR 850 trillion with Makassar as the main economic center. This city is growing rapidly as the gateway for Eastern Indonesia.

The agriculture, fisheries and export sectors of agricultural products are the mainstay of this province. With infrastructure growth, South Sulawesi is strengthening its position at the national level.
